Parthenogenesis, paedogenesis, viviparity, etc., are extremely rare phenomena in this order. The number of eggs laid varies among species, as does the subsequent pattern of development. There may be one or several generations annually, or larval development may take several years. Parental care is seen in some species. Pupation usually takes place in the soil or in the food plant. In some groups a cocoon is spun.
