Life History and Habits

Little is known about the biology of Mantophasmatodea. They are clearly hemimetabolous, with specimens at various stages of juvenile development collected in Baltic amber. In spring females deposit an egg pod containing 10-12 eggs in sandy soil. The eggs lie dormant through the hot, dry summer, hatching after the first autumn rains.
