Matthews and Kitching (1984), Price (1997), Huffaker and Gutierrez (1999), Speight et al. (1999), and Schowalter (2000) discuss the interactions of insects with other organisms. The ecology of aquatic insects is considered in the volume edited by Resh and Rosenberg (1984). Aspects of insect-plant interactions are reviewed by Schoonhoven etal. (1998) [general] and in the volumes edited by Wallace and Mansell (1975) [biochemical interactions], Gilbert and Raven (1975) [insect-plant coevolution], Strong etal. (1984) [insect-plant communities], Beattie (1985) and Huxley and Cutler (1991) [ant-plant interactions], and Panda and Khush (1995) [host-plant resistance to insects]. Blum (1981), Bowers (1990), Blum and Hilker (2002), and Nishida (2002) review the nature and use by insects of plant allelochem-icals. The trophic relationships of insects are discussed in Slansky and Rodriguez (1987). The biology of insect parasites and parasitoids is dealt with by Vinson (1975, 1984, 1985), Vinson and Iwantsch (1980), Powell (1999), Powell and Poppy (2001), and in several of the papers edited by Price (1975).
