METALMARKS Family Riodinidae Identification: Small dark-colored butterflies. R in FW 4-branched. HW with a short humeral vein and C thickened out to humeral angle of wing.

This group is chiefly tropical, and most of our species occur in the South and Southwest; 3 eastern species range north to Ohio but are rare in the North. They are brownish, with narrow lines or spots on wings; most have a wingspread of 1 in. or less; larvae feed on various weeds.
