Snakeflies Suborder Raphidiodea

Prothorax elongate. Front legs rise from posterior end of prothorax and are similar to other legs.

SNAKEFLIES Families Raphidiidae and Inocelliidae Identification: Raphidiidae: stigma in FW bordered proximally by a cross vein; basal m-cu in HW transverse; ocelli present. Inocelliidae: stigma in FW not bordered proximally by a cross vein; basal m-cu in HW oblique; ocelli absent.

Snakeflies occur only in the West, where they are represented by about 17 species of Agulla (Raphidiidae) and 2 species of Inocellia (Inocelliidae). Adults and larvae are predaceous; larvae are usually found under bark.
