Some species in this genus were originally placed in Iridomyrmex which, as now defined, is absentfrom the western hemisphere. Workers are small, ranging from 2 to 3 mm long, and the body is yellowish brown to brown. Antennae are 12-segmented and without a club. The eye is placed toward the median line of the head. The thorax is slender and with a constriction; the pedicel is one-segmented. Workers forage in narrow columns and eat a variety of plant and animal foods, including live and dead insects. Nests are in soil and colonies consist of 2000-3000 individuals.
